Random Quick Tips: Keeping fruit fresh

We eat a lot of fruit in our house, especially berries of all kinds likes strawberries, blueberries, blackberries you name it.  I hated buying fresh fruit and getting it home only to watch it mold the next day!  It meant wasted money and NO FRUIT.  But here is a quick tip to help them last longer.

Once I get the fruit home, I get a big bowl and dump the berries into the bowl. I cover them with a water and apple cider vinegar mix.  I just move the fruit around in the water/vinegar mix, then pour it into a strainer and shake off the excess water.  Next, I dry the fruit as much as I can but I’m not sure if this helps any or not.  I rinse the container, place a paper towel in the bottom and put the fruit back in the container.

The paper towel lets me know that I have cleaned the fruit and soaks up some of the moisture that leads to mold.  I use Apple Cider because that’s what I had on hand, but I don’t think it makes a difference if you use regular or apple cider.

This method has saved me lots of money and has kept fruit in my fridge on a regular basis!  Alex loves his fruits, and I love being able to give it to him.  If you try it, I hope  you find it works for you too and saves you money!! 🙂
